I must admit that Autumn is my favorite season. The senses come alive with vibrant seasonal colors that are a feast for the eyes; crisp air tickles cheeks and the smell of pie spices and vanilla ignite cravings.
As activity slows and we turn to winter we start to mirror certain behaviors of nature around us. We put on layers like the layers of spent leaves, frost and snow. We retreat indoors and we seek the comfort of slow cooked comfort foods; steeped hot beverages and longer periods of time streaming entertainment or tackling books thick in inches. This slowing our cue to conserve our energy to stoke our internal boiler and seek our cocoon.
Mother Nature's rhythm is deeply encoded in our DNA and if we shut out the machinery and noise of our manufactured lifestyle for the space of ten breaths we can start to sink back into that rhythm.
Turning our attention inward can be uncomfortable but join me for a moment. Let's take the beat and follow it starting with our breath. You need to breathe anyway why not take some time and focus on it for a minute or two. Is it short, hurried? Try to stretch it out and be curious how does your breath make your body feel? Spend alittle time just paying attention to the wonder of your physical form.
As you adjust here and there and you feel yourself reclaiming the quiet parts of yourself let the worries dissolve into the noise of every day and continue to be curious about how you feel in this moment. Follow the beat of your heart and visualize it opening up and getting stronger. Imprint this feeling in the here and now and give yourself permission to feel it often.
This feeling of calm is yours to return to at any time and with alittle practice this will start to change your reaction to outside stimulus. Subtle changes in your perception when tied to your senses can shift your awareness of nature's rhythm. Welcome this internal music and if you make a practice of listening you will feel over time greater connection to all living things around you and a more grounded sense of self.
I wish you dear reader a day filled with Serenity!
Namaste 🙏
